LED indicators have a massive range of advantages over standard incandescent bulb indicators and are slowly becoming the norm on new motorbikes, so upgrading yours to LED can help take a few years off your bike and keep it looking modern no matter what the age. LED bulbs provide a brighter light output than incandescent bulbs, whilst using less power and making you more visible out on the road. But safety isn’t the only reason why LED indicators are the way to go; thanks to modern technology manufacturers are able to fit a brighter more efficient light in to a considerably smaller bulb meaning the choice of indicator unit shapes and sizes is endless whether you are looking for a smaller stealthier look for your signals, or a cool new arrow shaped indicator they are all available at prices cheaper than OE units.
Do I need to change anything on my bike?
LED indicators are simple to fit as most will be mounted in the same position as original units using existing holes and the majority will plug directly in to existing wiring however because of the lower power draw from LED bulbs they will increase the flash rate of your indicators which can be outside of the legal limit (60-120 flashes per minute). To slow this down there are two simple solutions you can choose from depending on the application; one is to replace your existing indicator relay with an LED relay which you can find here, the second options is to fit resistors to the indicator wiring which work by drawing more power therefore slowing down the flash rate, these can be found here.
